Love them or hate them suits are part and parcel of life as a man in todays world. In fact everyman should own at least one suit. With that fact in mind following a few of  male-grooming-tips.com's simple rules will instill confidence and project an aura of sartorial elegance.

Suit Types

First of all there are two main types of suit

Bespoke Suits - These are made to measure and will provide a unique a perfect fit regardless of your body shape or size. Saville row in London probably provide the best Bespoke suits in the world. A bespoke suit of the Saville Row type quality will involve at least three fittings.

Off-the-Peg Suits - These are readily available a will be a lot less expensive than the bespoke suit. However they are designed for the "Average" body shape.

Bespoke suits are the favourite here at male-grooming-tips.com - That is if we were in the habit of spending a couple of months salary on a suit. Two other options exist

  • Buy off the peg and have a local tailor make a few nips and tucks to provide a better fit.
  • If you're ever in the Far East (Hong Kong in particular) seek out the the local tailors - There you will find a bespoke suit of the highest quality for a fraction of the cost of the Saville Row variety.

Suit Designs (Suit Cut)

Besides the two main types of suits we also have two main designs for the jackets

Single-Breasted Suits

The buttons on the jacket are in a single Horizontal row

Double-Breasted Suits

There are two horizontal rows of buttons with one lapel overlapping the other.

It is important to wear the right design for your body shape.

Tall and/or thin men should wear double-breasted suits to flatter their body shapes- However they should always have it buttoned up otherwise the overlapping lapel will hang down and look scruffy .

Short men and men with large stomachs (most of us no doubt !!) should wear Single breasted suits for the most flattering look.

The jacket design can also be broken down further into the number of vents in the back of the jacket. There are three suit cuts

No Vents              Single Vent      and Double Vent

Jacket with no vents Jacket One Vent Double Vent
